Releasing a domesticated monkey into the jungle is far more complex than opening a cage; it is often a death sentence. Raised by humans, these monkeys lack crucial survival skills, such as foraging for native foods, identifying predators, and navigating complex canopy terrain.
Crucially, they lack social integration skills. Wild monkeys live in strict, hierarchical troops and frequently attack or kill outsider intruders. Domesticated monkeys are also habituated to humans, making them prone to wandering into villages, causing human-wildlife conflict. Without months of intensive, professional rehabilitation to unlearn human dependencies, release typically leads to starvation, violent rejection, or tragic encounters with predators.
